Freedompop - Unexpected charges on an inactive account

New ReviewerI haven't used the FreedomPop service for years. I haven't received any communication with them since 2018 when I complained about the $0.01 charge they were making on a monthly basis (after I had stopped using the service 2 years before) and they refunded one month and stopped charging me.
Now in June and July of 2021 they have started charging me $4.04 each month.
Edit: after too much time on the phone they have partially resolved it. At first they strongly defended their decision to start charging me (despite having stopped using the service 5 years ago and officially closing the account 3 years ago) saying that they had emailed me to let me know. (huh?! You can email previous customers who have closed the account and start charging them again?!
Without their permission?!) I challenged them on the email notification and asked what email address they had used.
Turns out they had "emailed" me using an old phone number as the address - and the phone number was the one I had left with them when I canceled the service so they should have known even that was invalid.
To reiterate, in case you missed it: their official notification was email but using the phone number as the address. Nonsensical!
On the basis of the lack of notification (they would not have agreed if they had had my email address) they agreed to refund my money and close the account.
They only refunded half my money but I am tired of dealing with them.
User's recommendation: Don't touch them with a 10-foot pole!
Monetary Loss: $8.
Freedompop Pros: Impossibly cheap.
Freedompop Cons: Unauthorized charges after account closed multiple years.
